The only viable direction from which OpenGL could come is Phase5. The
V3.0 version of CyberGrafix is said to have 3D primitives. Basically
this is what OpenGL is. So Phase5 has to make the public OpenGL
librarys from SGI work with this new Cybergrafix version.
But software support is not the only thing you need. If your Grafix
card doesn't have some sort of OpenGl compatible chip (like Glint),
the OS just uses the CPU for the power( Eveyone: Am I Right ??).
Since the Amiga is still in the 68060 range, the speed is just not
enough for complex objects. Phase5 however is working on a PowerPC
board for the Amiga and AT have anounced PowerAmiga by Q1'97.
So it's definetly possible to make OpenGl work on the Amiga. Wether
Phase5 or someone else actually pickes it up is another issue.
